Residential rehabilitation is aimed at drug users who have experienced a number of treatment options in the community and have been unsuccessful in ceasing their use of drugs. They tend to be in large, shared houses and have staff on duty 24 hours a day. There are over 100 residential rehabs in England and Wales, all differing in size, programme and treatment philosophy.
Typically, however, the programme will include:
- One-to-one sessions with a keyworker (a worker in the rehab who will work closely with you during your stay).
- Group-work sessions with staff and other residents
- House meetings where the management of the house is discussed.
- Detailed daily timetables, including household chores and therapy sessions.
- Residents will usually stay in the rehab for around 9 months, and will receive support in setting up independent accommodation, aftercare and employment/training before they leave.
- The rehab needs to be chosen carefully, to suit your needs.
This can be a long process, as it is important to look at all suitable options before deciding. Also, bear in mind that individual rehabs all have differing waiting lists.
It is also very important to prepare properly for your stay. Usually, rehabs expect you to be drug free on entry. This means that we may have to help you plan a detox in the community or organise a residential detox immediately prior to your entry into the rehab. In addition we will expect you to attend some Multiple Choice groups in preparation for the intensive groupwork programmes run by most rehabs.
Funding for your stay has to be approved before you can enter the rehab. To arrange funding, you will need to take part in a detailed assessment and evaluation of your history and current needs (a community care plan). You will also need to undergo a financial assessment so the Council can decide how much they need to pay towards your stay.
At the end of the programme, some people decide to set up home in the same town as the rehab. If however, you have decided to return to Leeds at the end of your stay we can assist you in trying to secure independent accommodation, appropriate support and access to employment or training. |
